Free Piecing Mondo Birds

My sisters and I found Sarah and Molly's Free Piecing Study over on flickr and decided to follow along together. The first block was the mondo bird. (Don't ask me!!!) Here is the one I made for myself.

And the other. (He is a fat little thing!)

And here they all are together.

These were actually kind of challenging, as our first attempts at free piecing. It is hard for me to waste fabric!!!

  1. I'm not sure what you mean with "free piecing"? Is it that you don't measure, just cut the pieces and sew them together? I will go and look at the link you've mentioned. But in any case, your birds are so cool. What are you going to do with them?

  2. Hello Vickie! These birds are super sweet! Too bad I didn't know to make a bird for 'Nero's Quilt' like that! I need to do something new! It's amazing how it looks like a bird just with few patches!
Thank you for your sweet comments!
