First, thanks for all your great comments, both here and on flickr, to help me with ideas for putting these blocks together. I am a total newbie when it comes to doing this, and I love these blocks so much, I don't want to just hurry and put it together. Your ideas have been invaluable in helping me think in different ways!! So...tell me what you think of this...

I added Alexander Henry's tiny dots in black for the sashing. This is a 2.5" strip to finish at 2". But, I think it is a bit too wide and overpowers the blocks. I used the frothy pink Oliver + S fabric in the corner pieces. I am thinking about only putting them on the inner corners and leaving the outer black frame solid. Or maybe the corner pieces are too much???Sashing trial, a photo by myfullcolorlife - Vickie on Flickr.
But now I am going back to liking the pic with no sashing...it did have great movement...perhaps using these fabrics for some sort of an outer border...hmmm. I am going to try narrowing that black first.
Vickie, I am not so sure about the black, either. You could try a thinner strip.
ReplyDeleteYou know, the one without the sashing is like a bunch of birds in a tree with all the leaves moving. Do you know what I mean? I actually like it. Just me, of course!
I just love this quilt. The sashing emphasizes the individual blocks which are very beautiful, but I think the unframed quilt is just exquisite. The movement of colors, the way you organized the blocks - perfect. But as Debbie said - that's only me...
ReplyDeleteGreat work anyway.
I agree with the other comments so far. I like the one without sashing better than the one with the black. Is it already sewn? If not, you could try narrowing it by laying it out that way to look at. If it is, it is still a great quilt!
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the other commenters (is that a word?). I just love the blocks together without any sashing. It really looks very artistic where as with the sashing it looks more like an ordinary quilt, if you know what I mean. But you should do what you like, because it really is a matter of taste.
ReplyDeleteummm...I like the sashing...but, maybe, I'm voted out! =P So, my $.002 worth - the eyes need to rest somewhere and your sashing is the "resty area". Ok, maybe my opinion is worth "zero" cents (sense..?)

I am in the no-sashing camp. Without the sashing your quilt looks like a gorgeous wild jungle scene with birds peeping out.
