*LOVE* and {Sew Bee It}

I sent Amy Butler "Love" fabric to my bee pals in The Sew Bee It bee over on flickr {along with some other fabrics}. I asked for flying geese and this gorgeous quilt is the result!



It is the perfect size for covering up in a comfy chair.



My dear daughter, Ashley, took the photos for me. Go visit her brand new blog, especially if you are a foodie or a fan of PW!



I absolutely *LOVE* how this quilt turned out.



Those quilters did a great job of giving me variety and charm so that I could, in turn, share with my dear mom-in-law.



And that backing fabric...sigh...



....those flowers and that scrumptious periwinkle blue background...



...really does my heart good, especially when everything is so white outside!

This past weekend, Ashley helped me take pics of the quilts I finally finished. I will work on the photos and get them posted soon. Hopefully, by the end of the week these quilts will all be in their own homes!! :)

Daylight is better

All the photography buffs in my fam tell me I need natural light for a good pic, {and some more lessons...Gavin!} Well, they are obviously correct, but this was the beginning of a snow day...and I mean the very beginning! There wasn't much natural light at the moment and I had quilt bindings to sew. {see here} Plus, who wants to sleep away a good snow day? Anyway, I have had some interest in this early morning picture of my teacup.

My sister gave it to me for Christmas. She actually gave me two. The other one is green. I take turns using them. They came from Anthropologie. I know, because I went gaga over them right before she bought them for me for Christmas {which I totally and completely missed, because she is "The Queen of Sneak"}.

I absolutely love to drink coffee and tea out of beautiful cups, and this is a beautiful cup! {Can you smell green Moroccan Mint???}

Snow Day WIP

Early morning snow day sustenance. I have already had my coffee, which is my early morning necessity! Isn't that teacup pretty?! It was a Christmas gift from my sis!



Nothing like a good snow day to turn this...



...into this.



Here is a sneak peak of the backs of the 5 quilts I finished yesterday (I had finished one early in the week).



They are all now nice and crinkly. I used the color catcher sheets when I washed them. Worked perfectly. It was late when they were done, so no pictures yet....lots of happiness, but no pictures.

Work to do

My poor family. They were given Christmas gifts they couldn't keep. Well, now it is time to correct that.

The binding is all made (which is my least fav part) and now I get to sew! :)

Magoo becomes Marvin

They say it is better to give than to receive. They are right! :)

Inbox Fun was where I shared what I won from Crystal of Two Little Aussie Birds. I was thrilled to receive that cute little monkey pattern to make for Deacon.

As fall came, and the crazy-ness that is my life was whirling around me, I wasn't sure if this would be the Christmas Magoo would be born. However, one weekend...

I was rewarded beyond words, when early on Christmas morn, Deacon and Grammy V snuck out to meet his new monkey sitting by his stocking. (Shhhhh.....please don't tell on us!)

The first thing he did was give it a kiss on that big smiling mouth. 

The second thing he did was give it a hug. And he held on to that hug for a long time while those cute little boy fingers patted away. My heart melted all over the place. 

Deacon and his mommy and daddy have renamed Magoo, Marvin.

Perfect.

I try to adapt

I had so much fun making this for Emerson, that I had to find a way to adapt it for my grandson, Deacon. I thought about things a boy would do and came up with this.



I thought about it, and happened to have in my possession a block made by my friend Krista with a kite on it. Oh yeah! And what is a boy without a dog? If there is a boy, there has to be a dog.

Happy New Year and new things to share

As the old year ends and the new one begins, I can finally begin to show you some of the things I made for Christmas gifts. I love my sewing machine. More than I ever thought I would. But, I was never able to accomplish free motion quilting. Not that I want to do it on a grand scale (yet). So....

Look at what I got as an early Christmas present!! She is a grand machine. Simple, yet able to do more than I could before.

The first thing I made using this machine was this darling quilt following the tutorial on comfortstitching found here. (Notice the bubble free motion quilting stitch!!! That was a piece of cake with my new baby!!!)

Aneela gave such excellent instructions, it was easy and soooo much fun to do!! I love seeing all those favorite fabric scraps being put to good use!

This little darling went to my great niece, Emerson Kate, on Christmas afternoon. (Her mommy does the cutest baby gifts and hair bows here. You can see a picture of that beautiful little girl on her blog header.) 

I love how the little girl turned out. And did you notice that cute little bumble bee under the branch of the tree?? Fabric designers are brilliant people. I'm just sayin'...

And I love that big flower on her dress with the other flower that became her collar!! Sooooo much fun!

Wait till you see how I adapted this pattern for my sweet little grandson, Deacon!!!!!!

What I am getting for Christmas!

QJRR Bee block for Victoria

Another fun block to make. Victoria said we could put something in the center of the block if we would like. I like. I thought about it for quite a while before I settled on this.



Here are our blocks together. This is going to be an adorable quilt! (Sorry the color is a bit distorted--it was dreary outside)





I loved sifting through my fabrics and finding fun bits and pieces to add to the quilt. And I couldn't resist the "V".





I found a font I liked, and enlarged it on my computer screen and simply traced it from there onto my steam a seam. 





I hand stitched the raw edge applique initial, mainly because my sewing machine chose that time to quit working properly. I hope she likes it as much as I do.
