My husband's Grandma Angell's Pecan Pie

We made this scrumptious pie on Thanksgiving day at my mom-in-law's home. We did it on a whim and had a blast figuring everything out (including oven temp, baking time, oh....and butter the size of walnut). Of course, with the internet, that was pretty simple.

Recipe:

1 c dark Karo
3/4 c sugar
butter: size of walnut

Boil all of the above to thread. Cool.

2 heaping tsp flour
1/4 t nutmeg
2 eggs
1/2 c milk
2 t vanilla
1 c pecans

Mix together. 10" pan

Something else I spent time doing over Thanksgiving break.

Kaleidoscope block for Aurora Fair - Alex

This is for our Quilting Journey Round Robin Bee. I love the pattern and the smaller size of this paper pieced block.

Back on track

I brought my sewing machine home.

I miss having it up where my sisters also sew and my folks can just drop in anytime, but I have been in the thick of musical rehearsals and gone on the weekends. So I brought it home. It is really kind of fun to sew at 9:00 at night or 6:00 in the morning! :)

However, this weekend I have been HOME!!! And I am fighting a cold, that is being shared around the cast (we are a week out), so sewing has been about all I have felt like doing!! That and watching movies...old movies or new movies on the Hallmark channel, it doesn't really matter (I love John Wayne)! But I have been productive, and that does feel good!

This first block I did is for Jen in our Quilting Journey Round Robin Bee. My inspiration block was the Antique Tile from Modify Tradition. I just added another strip of fabric to bring it up to 15.5", which is what she requested.



These bad boys are really big and the light in my room is not great, so they kind of hang off the table, but here is my block with Jen's starter block. They will be living happily in Canada.



Next comes the block for Krista. It was so hard to decide which way to go with this block, because I had an idea of what I was going to do from the pictures I had seen of others and what they had done, until I had hers and the others in my hot little hands! Then, I knew I had to rethink...and wait until I was actually "in" a fabric store to get some different fabrics. I decided on 3 fabrics and a star. Without even knowing it, I even ended up purchasing the same KF fabric she had in her block to use in mine. And the blue matches hers, as well...two *happy accidents*.



The pattern for my block came from the Quilter's Cache website (a real treasure). Here are our blocks together.



The last block I did was for Mona W. This block and Jen's came together about 2 weeks ago. I thought I might not enjoy doing this block, because I love variety and Mona wanted a paintbox block (one color) ala "Oh, Fransson", one of my favorite blogs. I was so wrong. I love red and this block was so...satisfying to make. :)



Here is my block with Mona's. :) It is fun to think of them living together in Germany!!



And, last but not least, I did a block for Wendy for November, in my Sew Bee It quilting bee. She rescued some 1930's reproduction fabrics from a friend who had them in a tub labeled "Aunt Grace". I received some pieces of fabric already cut into squares and strips as well as some other pieces of fabric. Wendy asked for 9" blocks, and since I had just finished the paintbox block, I did these in the same manner and style.

Owls everywhere!

I am really into owls right now. I made these fabric postcards for an exchange I signed up for late in the summer before school and musical rehearsals got into full swing and I was still in the blissful forgetfulness of what my life is like in the fall!! Fortunately, they were pretty easy to make.  

I enjoy applique and have a pattern program from Sue Spargo, which is where these little darlings came from. I enjoy her pictorial style. She also has a great blog, full of fun pics!

Every Neighborhood needs a Park

For our Quilting Journey Round Robin Bee, Cindy wanted a "neighborhood" quilt. These blocks, all together, are really fun! I wanted to do something unique and fun, so decided to give her a park.

This applique block was a blast to make!!! Here it is with Cindy's starter block.

The bird is my favorite!!!

I love how these flowers turned out, too. Modern fabrics are so amazing!!!!

This little wall hanging was made for Deacon's 1st birthday. It was really fun. My sister-in-law was visiting from Oregon when I purchased the fabrics. We had such a good time. I used the pattern from this web site. {Couldn't 'get' the machine quilting. Need to take a class}. Now, my dear Mr. Deacon has Grammy V's love looking over him while he sleeps! Ahhh....does a heart good!
